Mio Breeze Heart Rate Monitor Review

Mio Strapless HRM

The Mio Breeze strapless heart rate monitor is a simple, easy to use heart watch that you can wear all the time and take your pulse whenever you need. It also allows you to monitor your heart zones.

At A Glance

  • Visual indicator of exertion level
  • Accurate heart rate monitor
  • Shows percentage of maximum heart rate

The Mio Breeze is basically a stripped down version of a couple of the Mio brand's higher end heart rate monitor watches. Now, that's not to say that the Breeze is an inferior product, just that it's been stripped of some of the bells and whistles that cause the price of these higher end models to sky rocket. The Breeze will still do the basics, and a little more, of what the user actually needs in a heart rate monitor. Obviously, it is a heart rate monitor, so it will give the user a reading on their heart rate on demand of the user; it is a strapless heart rate monitor which means it does not give a continuous update, but rather an intermittent one at the user's discretion. The Breeze also gives a visual representation of the user's exertion level, helping to make sure that the user does not overexert themselves during their workout. Additionally, the Breeze shows the user the percentage of their maximum heart rate that they are currently operating at; this could be useful in helping the user remain in a specific "zone" if they're trying to exercise at a specific heart rate.

Customer feedback for the Breeze out there is positive. The only negative feedback about the Breeze is that it might not be as easy to program in the user parameters (age, gender, height, weight, and other factors that help the Breeze to determine the user's estimated maximum heart rate) as it might be. The result is the device not being quite as user friendly as perhaps it might be. To help you set up this device properly, go the the Mio website (listed in the right hand column) to watch a setup video. Evidently, after the basic set up is complete the watch is fairly straightforward and simple to use.

The price range on the Breeze is a bit easier on the wallet, but still not quite as friendly as some competitor's brands. The list price on the Breeze is seventy dollars, but the device can be found online for closer to forty five. Forty five isn't a bad price at all for a device of this caliber, especially when you stop to consider that very few of the Mio products receive complaints about accuracy while many of their competitors have an endless stream of accuracy complaints. It might very well be worth the extra ten or fifteen dollars to go for the device that is more likely to be accurate than the one where it's sort of taking a gamble.
