The One Touch Ultra 2 is a very good blood sugar monitor, but it does have some drawbacks. As far as pros go, the Ultra 2 is a convenient compact size which means carrying it around with you isn't going to be a horrible inconvenience; if you are in a position where frequent or multiple daily testings are a necessity, then this might be a huge selling point for you. As far as user interaction goes, it's overall a very friendly device. It isn't very difficult to find and manage your data with the device, so keeping track of your information isn't made unnecessarily difficult. It has several of the features that users were seemingly fond of in its predecessor, the One Touch Ultra, but it has plenty of improvements to make it worth upgrading to this version of the device.
One of the popular selling points of the device is a simple one- the device has a backlight that makes reading the information displayed just a bit easier in poor lighting. Like I said, it's a simple feature, but certainly a useful one. Another interesting features is how the One Touch Ultra 2 will show you information. There are several other devices out there that let you make notes on your readings and tag them as before or after a meal, but the Ultra 2 gives you an option to average your results in three different ways. You have the option, of course, to average all of your results regardless of when the readings were taken; you also have the option to average only your pre-meal results or only your post-meal results. Basically, the device allows you to get a better idea of exactly what your average really is instead of just lumping all of the numbers together and leaving it up to you to puzzle out why if the numbers seem to be a bit high.
The drawbacks on this device vary from non-existent to severe, depending on who you ask. Some users seem to think the device is basically perfect the way it is. Others have some of the usual complaints, such as having to code. There are complaints about the price of the strips compared to the prices of other devices, as well. Probably, though, the worst drawback is the contested accuracy of the device. The FDA allows for a device to be within plus or minus 20 percent when delivering a result, and there are users out there who insist that their device falls right on the 20 percent line. Obviously, this can be quite a problem if you're needing to monitor your sugar levels closely. If this is something that particularly concerns you, you might want to do a bit of research and double check the accuracy of the Ultra 2. Generally, the device is well received and well liked.
Customer Review:
And here's what some of the customers who bought the One Touch Ultra 2 Glucose Meter have to say about it:
..."I like the ability to check my averages based on all results, before meal results, or after meal results"...
..."Little amount of blood and less time for results are the highlights of the machine"...
